eSIM technology makes your phone more flexible — especially if you travel a lot. But how many eSIMs can you actually store and use on your iPhone?

Installing and Using eSIMs

Apple makes a distinction between storing eSIMs and using them at the same time. The number of eSIMs you can install depends on your iPhone model:

Install: From iPhone XS onwards, you can store up to eight eSIMs. This is useful if you frequently switch between plans or countries.

Use: Most iPhones support two active SIMs — either one physical SIM and one eSIM, or two eSIMs on newer models such as the iPhone 13.

Differences Depending on the Model

From iPhone 13 onwards: You can use two eSIMs at the same time — for example, one for your personal number and one for your business number.

Older models, such as iPhone XS: These support one physical SIM and one eSIM at the same time.

Adding and Switching eSIMs

Here is how you can add eSIMs and switch between them:

Add: Go to Settings > Mobile Data > Add eSIM and scan the QR code or download the profile through an app such as Saily.

Switch: Under “Mobile Data”, you can see all stored eSIMs. Tap the eSIM you want to use and activate it.

Conclusion

eSIM makes your iPhone more flexible, especially when travelling. The number of eSIMs you can actively use depends on your model, but in general you can use up to two at the same time.
